Surface Tensions is concerned with perception and how perspective alters one’s interactions with the world. Light is essential to this study, both physically and conceptually. It is an energy that mediates all human perception while underscoring the subjectivity of the observer: Light itself can be measured as a wave or particle, depending on your point of view.

Embracing this duality, Surface Tensions simulates light particles refracted through a pool of water. These digital photons form caustic patterns as the waves undulate, creating an ephemeral landscape participants interact with. Visitors can see and interact with both the water and the light, creating a holistic conceptual environment for participants to explore and meditate on.

Programmed in TouchDesigner, integrating LiDAR and infrared sensor hardware components. Originally created for a live installation commissioned by the LAZO festival in K10 Media Arts Gallery, Bogotá.
