Meaning both 'a region of action or sphere of influence' and 'a stretching expanse or extension of environment', Firmament plays with these concepts visually by extending a small selection of macro photographs as a foundation from which to create a vast canvas in constant flux.
Viewers exert their own spheres of influence through interacting with the work, which is progressively destroyed through continued, aggregating interaction. However, the work is able to regenerate with time, mirroring the environmental impact of ever-quickening progress and prompting the question: Where does a sphere of influence really terminate, and what might be its lasting effects?
